This will cost you

This ad for PayPal is called “Voices”.

It should be called “Torture”.

I made it through 40 seconds and had to stop.

Watching this made me feel like I rode the Gravitron 20 times in a row. Directly after winning a hot dog eating contest. With a bad flu. In uncomfortable shoes. You get the point.

See how much you can handle. I take no responsibility for nausea or seizures.

Of No Benefit

maxresdefaultYou might want to hold your nose, because today’s ad is a total stinker.

This video was created by the folks at Benefit Cosmetics to showcase the “They’re Real” mascara.  A product that won’t make your lashes look lumpy or fake.

While the US director of Marketing admitted that this spot was “irreverent and cheeky, so overt [you] can’t possibly take it seriously” – it doesn’t make it any less painful to watch. Like a slow, thrusting train wreck.

What a Bunch of Vegetables

I’m sitting in Pearson International, choking down the most overpriced breakfast wrap in all of Canada, waiting for my connecting flight to New York. Only thirty minutes to kill after sprinting across this expansive aviation wasteland.

While I was screening today’s ad, a portly man in a tight blue dress shirt stared conspicuously at my laptop. I wanted to turn around and tell him that I’m only posting this video because it is too ridiculous not to share (perhaps he’s reading this over my shoulder as I write it).

PETA is known for outlandish stunts and shock tactics to gain attention, but they’ve taken it to a whole new level with the following ad. And no, this wasn’t created by a pack of horny 12-year old boys. This immature pile of dung was created by an agency called Falon, based in London.

The video’s description: In honour of World Vegan Day, watch this spicy video, which gives a wink to the sexual benefits of going vegan by showcasing men enthusiastically and proudly showing off some healthy protrusions from their trousers.

A wink, huh? Right. This is impressively immature and makes me glad that I’m chewing on a large, delicious hunk of bacon from my breakfast wrap while I write this.

Rotton Apples

As if Mondays weren’t depressing enough, I have come across the worst Apple commercials ever made. Yes, it’s finally happened. Apple has released a series of painful commercials that make you feel moderately embarrassed for everyone involved. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way, because our first ad “Mayday” has 300,000 views – and 1,200 dislikes. The comments were disabled for all of these spots. I guess Mac fans may have been a little too expressive with their feedback.

If you’re still here, you’re clearly a sucker for punishment. Either that, or in shock, which is perfectly understandable. Now we’re going to watch “Basically”. Another spot in the series that basically makes me want to punch myself in the face just so it will end sooner.

And last up is “Labor Day”. Good luck trying to make it through this one.

So what’s wrong with these ads? Pretty much everything. First off, this is not the brand that Mac fans know and love. I would expect something like this from Microsoft, not Mac. Both the writing and acting is unbearably cheesy. And the scenarios, well, I can’t even begin.

Sorry to say, but TBWA\Media Arts Lab totally missed the mark with these ones.

How To Tell If Your Creative Team Is On Drugs

First, they come to you with this idea:

And you’re like “Are you guys high? This is the worst pile of garbage ever! It totally objectifies women and has some very lazy sexual innuendos.”

And they’re all “We’ll just remake the same ad with men so it will even it out. That way we’re objectifying everyone, or some shit!”

And you go “OK” because apparently you’re on drugs too. Then you laugh hysterically at your brilliance and reach for another donut.

These bad choices were brought to you by Attik, USA for the Scion, iQ.
