Don’t Be Smart With Me

Sleepthinker is a London-based production company. Here’s one of their self-promo videos. It’s not new. It was published to YouTube back in March 2013, and has over two million views. Which is interesting, because it’s kind of a viral video, but in super slow motion.

The premise; a pill on offer that lowers your IQ, because “the world’s a much brighter place when you’re not too bright for it”.

Science Says

With over five million views in just a few short days, this video has gone uber-viral. Which would normally turn me off from posting it on my blog, but it made me so angry that I had to rant.

This ridiculous video is an ad, created by Del Campo Saatchi & Saatchi for Beldent gum. It’s a totally unscientific experiment where they try to prove that people who chew gum look more friendly and more popular than those who don’t. Especially when those who are not chewing gum have a severe case of Resting Bitch Face.

When you chew gum, especially with your mouth open, you look like cow. Gum snappers, loud chewers, people who spit their gum on the sidewalk… stop it. SWITCH TO MINTS. For those of you who discretely chew your gum and dispose of it properly, carry on.

If the words “let’s make a viral video” come out of your mouth, you’re trying too hard. Example: Big Red soda. I imagine that’s what someone over at Big Red did to someone in the marketing department. And this monstrosity was birthed:

Keep On Internetting

Three-The-PonyThis brilliant little campaign by mobile network ‘Three‘ just launched on Friday, March 1 – and already has taken the internet by storm, reaching 1.5+ million views as of today.

This is how you create a viral video folks. The perfect blend of Shetland ponies, Fleetwood Mac, and the Moonwalk. You can even use their “Pony Mixer” to create your very own dancing Shetland.

(The pony’s name is Socks, by the way. I found this to be an interesting detail.)

Trolo-A-Go-Go

Cute spot for the new Beetle Convertible, called ‘Mask’. Created by Deutsch, LA. My favorite part? The fact that they’re playing Trololo as the background music in the store. Two thumbs up.

MU Gets an A+

I am a huge Pixar fan. I love everything they do. And this viral video and website to promote a new Monsters University movie is no monsters_logo_largeexception.

Monsters University is the 14th movie produced by Pixar and is a follow-up to the 2001 Monsters Inc. (Better late than never, I guess.) It’s always exciting to see how the animation has progressed with each new release. If this video is any indication, this movie is going to be setting the bar a lot higher.

The team at Pixar even went as far as to create an entire website for Monsters University. You can check out Campus Life, buy MU gear at the store, and even learn how one can get Financial Aid.

I can’t wait until this movie comes out in the summer.

You Can Ring My Bell

Hope you all enjoyed your holidays! Me, I’m taking another week off and heading to foggy San Francisco. There’s no guaranteed posting schedule while I’m gone… I guess as long as inspiration hits me… and if I can type with a cocktail in my hand (duh).

In the meantime, keeping things festive, check out this cute animated short video called “The Bell Ringer”. It was created as part of a campaign for the Red Cross, to help raise funds for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Once you’re done the video, go check out the interactive holiday site.

This campaign, created by Royal, L.A., is only on for 25 days – and right now there are 15 days left to donate. If you’re still feeling in the giving mood, and didn’t blow all your Christmas cash on some cheap Boxing Day electronics, perhaps you would like to donate.

Everything But the Kitchen Sink

Ever since the Old Spice campaign appeared on the scene, advertisers have been stepping up their game. Presenting more bizarre, eye-catching, fast-paced commercials that seem to include everything but the kitchen sink. The stranger, the more eccentric, the more obscure, the better. Think Skittles, Old Spice, and Dollar Shave Club.

Now Airtime internet is looking to join the club. This video was created by Portal A and directed by Kai Hasson.

Adopt Something

All packed and ready!

It’s ‘Adopt a Shelter Cat Month’, brough to you by the folks at the ASPCA. In order to promote this, they decided to make a totally zany kitty video with a dubstep soundtrack. At the end, a super pops up telling you that there are “Millions of Viral Videos Waiting to be Adopted”.

Yep. As I suspected. Viral videos are like hipsters. The moment you declare yourself to be one is the moment you get kicked out of the club. Even still, I was mildly entertained and it IS a good cause.

Over in San Fransisco, BBDO is doing right by the SPCA with this great little public service announcement against puppy mills.

The Light is Your Friend

Stop what you’re doing.

You need to see the new commercial for the 2012 Young Director Awards. Immediately. I’ve always been a fan of their ads, and each year they just keep getting better. This new spot casts an adorable, yet creepy little British boy who executes his part flawlessly.

You may remember last year’s ad, which also stars a young actor. A very wicked little girl. (Who I admired greatly.) This commercial has received over 3.5 million views on YouTube.

And to round out the bunch, there was also this less popular, but still amazing spot starring the same little wicked one.
