The Theatre is Full of Surprises

So this “movie” trailer ran over Christmas time in Paris’s movie theatres to promote Theatre de la Bastille. Basically they were trying to show how the theatre has far more surprises than a boring old movie. A very… interesting approach by Leo Burnett.

Winter Tale

I’m just going to give in to the fact that the holiday hoedown has begun. Christmas music is playing in the shops, and some of my friends have already started posting photos of their fully decorated homes. (You know who you are.) And all the holiday commercials are being released now – which means there’s a good chance we’ll be sick of them come December 5th – like this one from Cartier, featuring a baby panther leopard (duh) who decides to take a snowy walk through Paris in the 1920′s.

Where’s Le Bouef?

I’m pretty sure this ad is about beef – but for some reason, it stars Party Monster-inspired angels, handsome demons and disco-dancing aliens. And although I’m quite certain that I’ve been to a very similar dinner party at one point in my life, this ad reaffirms that I don’t understand French… and I still don’t understand the French.

So Happy Together

imagesA warning: if you find computer generated breasts offensive you should probably A. seek help, and B. not watch this.

The following three videos are animated commercials for Valege Lingerie. The series is called “Finally Together” and it was created by Marcel Worldwide, Paris. The “characters” kind of remind me of the lamp from Pixar, except… they’re boobs.

The first one is my favorite.

McScuse Me?

ronald_mcdonald_by_iroisaac-d341ad7We started the week with characters from famous horror movies, so let’s end the week the same way. Direct from TBWA Paris, check out this bizarre ad for McDonalds.

Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em

La Surprise du Chef‘ is an ad for underwear brand Le Slip Francais, by agency BETC Paris. They wanted to portray their “100% French, quirky and subversive spirit”.

I believe they achieved their goal.

Some Things Should Be Impossible

I first saw these print ads and I thought “Aw, such cute illustrations!” Then I looked closer and saw what they were advertising. And I read the tag line. And I felt confused and slightly disturbed. Creative by Herzie, Paris.

What Do Bears & Closets Have in Common?

Remember the fantastic ad called “The Bear” from Canal+? If you haven’t seen it yet, take a look.

I’ll wait.

Good to go?

Well, back in September, agency BETC Paris released the first of the “Closet” series of ads for Canal+. Check it out.

Funny right? It certainly captures your attention. Now here is the most recent “Closet” ad, created to promote a new series on Canal+ called “Kabul Kitchen”. Sorry, no subtitles on this one, but if you’re sharp (and I know you are) you’ll figure it out.

One More Thing For You Not To Fill Out

Check out this “Creative Calendar” by Leo Burnett Paris. It’s funny and useful (like me!) and it contains all of the deadlines for the ad awards in 2011-2012. If you look closely, you’ll see where they got their inspiration. I wonder which intern the creative directors will get to fill this out for them.
