No One Sees it Like You

A really nice ad for Canon by Leo Burnett, Sydney.

Although I did feel compelled to blink a little more than usual while watching this…

Didn’t Happen

More film fest ads – this time for the ‘IndieLisboa 11th International Independent Film Festival’. These two spots were created by Leo Burnett, Lisbon, PortugalAn interesting idea, I see where they were going with this, I wish they would have been taken a little further. Still, good work.

The Theatre is Full of Surprises

So this “movie” trailer ran over Christmas time in Paris’s movie theatres to promote Theatre de la Bastille. Basically they were trying to show how the theatre has far more surprises than a boring old movie. A very… interesting approach by Leo Burnett.

Seconds Matter

Grab some tissues for this one. leo burnett

Leo Burnett, France teamed up with French charity Mimi Foundation to give 20 cancer patients makeovers. The only rule was that they had to keep their eyes closed during the makeover in order to make the reveal more exciting – or at least that’s what they were told.

You can order the book here.

Bite the Bulleit

This is a great piece of advertising for Bulleit Whiskey. The writing and way it’s shot create an idea of craftsmanship, a memory of a time when things were made to last.

Although I always feel a little funny when a TV commercial, made by a big agency to sell a mass-market product declares itself to be ‘anti-establishment’ – I think counterculture would have been a little more appropriate in this case. But otherwise fantastic work by Leo Burnett, Sydney.

Yo, Ho, Ho and a Bottle of Rum

That headline pretty much sums up my vacation. An entire week off and I’m struggling shake off the cobwebs and get back into the groove. I’ve got a lot of internet to catch up on, and lots of good things to share with you.

Starting with this commercial for Bundaberg Rum by Leo Burnett, Sydney, Australia. The ad is called “Catfish” and the visuals, music, effects – everything is perfection. And my favorite thing about this spot is the tagline at the end.

W.W.O.D?

It’s the Tuesday after a long weekend. I’m sweeping my remaining brain cells into a small pile, hoping that some of them might rub together and inspire me to produce a semi-cohesive blog post. I’ve been editing the same four sentences for the past thirty minutes.

Sometimes when I get stuck, I like to look to the pros for some advice. Like advertising moguls William Bernbach, David Ogilvy and Leo Burnett.

www.LookingForAdvice.net is a new website where you just click on the faces of these real-life Mad Men and out come some inspirational quotes.

Level of productivity during August…

(Un)intentional Coincidences

While cruising the internet for some exciting and fantastical advert to share with you, I came across this new spot by Leo Burnett, London for Kellogg’s ‘Crunchy Nut’ cereal. Take a look.

The spot is kind of funny, yes, but I keep thinking about the snake going up the man’s khakis… and the cereal’s name.

I can’t help but associate these things – and I’m left feeling like a giant pervert, wondering if anyone else makes this connection. Was that on purpose? I mean, if I were making an ad for a cereal called ‘Crunchy Nut’, I would probably avoid sending a bitey, venomous snake up someone’s trousers.

Gruen Returns!

The Gruen Transfer, one of my favorite (Australian) television shows announced yesterday that it will be returning with a four episode Olympic special called Gruen Sweat, followed by ten episodes of Gruen Planet.

If you’ve never heard of Gruen Transfer and Gruen Planet, then you’re missing out. Gruen is an Australian television series which focuses on advertising, branding, spin and all that juicy stuff. The program is hosted by stand-up comedian Wil Anderson who hosts a panel of advertising industry experts like Russel Howcroft of George Patterson Y&R and Todd Sampson (so dreamy) of Leo Burnett.

Here’s a taste:

So as you’ve seen, the series has great segments, like “The Pitch”, where ad agencies go up against each other to sell the unsellable. Here’s two agencies trying to sell the idea of child labour.

Or this one, where agencies are asked to create ads to convince the tourists to visit Asbestos, Quebec.

And finally, “Ad Crunch”, where the experts sit around and dissect advertising creative. In this clip, they go after McDonalds and the launch of the Angus Burger in Australia.

There are a TON of episodes and clips online and I highly recommend you go to YouTube and spend at least an hour watching. Especially if you plan on catching the new episodes when they come out!
