I’m off to AdDrinx’s Spring Fling event. I hope you are too.

But first check out this visual orgasm that is the new Lurpak commercial.

Sweet F Bombs

You might want to turn your speakers down when you watch this candy commercial by LoweFriends, Denmark.  “A little bit vulgar, but at the same time absolutely sweet.

Missing: One Unique Concept

If found, please send to these guys.

Look closely. This isn’t another zany advert for Skittles. It’s a commercial for those light-colored, five cent gummy worms that you throw in your Slurpee at 7-11. Who knew those things even had a name let alone an advertising budget?

But it’s true, they do indeed have a name and it is Trolli. But clearly the agency they hired, Periscope, didn’t have an original concept so they borrowed one from Skittles. I imagine a giant, spinning wheel of fortune that was created by pulling out 25 random words from the dictionary;

“Unicorn!”

“Lunchtime!”

“Tape!”

“Headband!”

“I’ve got it!”

Yes, it’s funny, but will it really sell more five cent gummy worms? I’d like to know.

Engage or Die

Recently, there was a lot of hub bub about the Chipotle “Scarecrow” advert. I like the ad. I thought it was visually stunning and portrayed Chipotle as the good guys, the non-GMO, veg from down the road, mom and pop sort of operation.

Was that an accurate portrayal?

It seems that the guys over at Funny Or Die felt it was not. Take a look at their overhaul of the Chipotle Scarecrow ad.

Eat Your Feelings

I’m kind of loving this new Crispin Porter + Bogusky ad for Jell-O pudding. They cast the spot perfectly with this adorable little actor – his facial expressions are priceless. And is the boss Bill Lumbergh from Office Space? Because that would be extra amazing.

Bury those feelings boys! Bury’em deep under a mountain creamy, chocolatey, partially hydrogenated cottonseed oily goodness. That’s right. There you go. Doesn’t that feel better than making positive life changes? I mean, who doesn’t want to be miserably sucking down a pudding cup at the kitchen table and telling your kid he’s doomed for a lifetime full of disappointment?

Bacon Bowls!

BaconbowlWe are talking about bacon for the second day in a row. Why? Because bacon is awesome. And this infomercial is a real piece of work. Pay special attention to how all the “bad” regular meals are in black and white – but Bacon Bowl meals are in full, glorious, greasy colour!

Also, I particularly like the serving sizes of the Bacon Bowl meals. “Craving a burger?” Now you can have four in your Bacon Bowls! Mac and cheese? Don’t just have one plain old bowl. Have three Bacon Bowls full!

The Power of Bacon

We all know the power of bacon. It’s the candy of meat. Delicious, salty goodness. It gets us out of bed in the mornings. It makes everything taste better. It’s not just meat, it’s motivation.

That’s exactly the messaging in the following Maple Leaf ads by John St. “Change your life… with bacon.”

BACON

Brazil Nuts

The following is an actual campaign created by Y&R, Sao Paulo for Densia yogurt.

I might be going out on a limb here, but I would venture to say this creative is not exactly going to resonate with the middle-aged women suffering from poor digestion, a.k.a the main purchasers of yogurt. Clearly they’re going after this target as they’re promoting “young bones” through calcium and vitamin D.

However – again, going out on that limb – even as a shystery youth, I never did any of the things depicted in these ads. Sadly this campaign is just not doing it for me – which is a shame because I like the style of the illustrations. Anyone who can figure out how to draw a skeleton lighting its own fart on fire gets a thumbs up in my books.
