Stick It To ‘Em

First Aid is easy to learn and the Red Cross is trying to encourage Australians to book classes through this illustrated spot featuring band-aid happy women named Betty. Betty loves her Band-Aids but they’re not always the right solution to a problem. (Clearly Betty has problems that can’t be fixed by a Band-Aid.)

I love the simplicity of this spot. It just goes to show that you don’t need a million dollar 3-D animation to sell your ideas.

Creative direction, script and animation by Monkeystack.

The Art of Raw

This commercial for G-Star Raw features some pretty amazing animation. How amazing? It almost made me overlook the Skrillex soundtrack. By Glassworks Amsterdam.

The Existential Adventures of Tim Maia

tim-maia-cover_croppedThe following animated two-minute spot was created to promote a record release for a hard-livin’ man named Tim Maia, “the greatest (and craziest) soul singer you never heard of”.

Before Tim passed in 1998, he was infamous in Brazil. Constantly (and with a smile on his face) mixed up with drugs, women, money, guns, and even a UFO cult. He lived how he wanted, when he wanted.

This illustration is brilliant, done by Momo and Spirits, and working with ad agency Super Heroes from the Netherlands. The video was narrated by Devendra Banhart.

Create or Destroy?

This ad for TEDx Amsterdam created by an agency called WE ARE Pi addresses one of humankind’s greatest questions: create or destroy?
Artist Guido Verhoef used 15,000 balloons to illustrate the idea that creation cannot exist without destruction, and out of destruction comes creation.

Friday Morning Movie: Les Coulisses de Rhapsodie

Today’s film is an animated short about a the dinner rituals of a French family. The animation is cute and sort of reminds me of The Triplets of Belleville. Maybe because it’s French. Who knows.

This is a graduation project by Charlotte Cambon, Soizic Mouton, Stéphanie Mercier and Marion Roussel.

Friday Morning Short: Keep Drawing

This video was created by Korean animators Ha Lee and Juan Sunghwan. They wanted to show young creatives that they should never give up. To be persistent and they will get better with practice. The video is strangely emotional, beautiful, and inspiring.

Happy Friday.

Friday Morning Movie: Follow Fish

Friday animated short time! But it’s not a short movie, it’s an animated ad.

I stumbled across this two-minute thirty-second advert, developed by Leagas Delaney in Hamburg. It’s promoting the company Fish & More and their 100% sustainable fishing brand called Followfish.

This extended commercial showcases the problem of global overfishing. It also shows how sustainable fishing can help to turn things around and that it’s not too late to reverse the damage.

This spot is amazing. Not only is the message inspiring, the illustration, done by Veronika Kieneke and animated by Nico Uthe, is mesmerizing.

No wonder it won Gold in Design at the Art Directors Club Europe 2012 Awards.

Honda Illustrates Their Point

Now it’s time for something I hope you’ll really like!

I am loving this animated spot for Honda by DDB South Africa with music by The Pete Box. The ad was uploaded just over two months ago, so it’s not new new. But I had to share because the concept and execution are flawless. The illustration sucked me in. I couldn’t look away. Gorgeous.
